Teeth Cleaning

Teeth cleaning is a standard routine of dental care. Most people aren't aware that the standard to come and see a dental professional is every 6 months. We hear it all the time, "Why do I need to come in and see a dental professional so often?" Good question. Some feel that their home care habits are great, "But I brush and floss all the time!" Brushing and flossing is great, but it takes our specialized instruments to remove bacteria effectively. Over 80% of the population has something called, 'Periodontal Disease', a disease that causes bone destruction and the potential for loss of teeth. Periodontal disease is often silent, only rearing its head with bleeding gums. Some say, "Yes, my gums bleed, but that's normal for me." To which we reply, if you were to brush your hair and your scalp started bleeding, you would get to the doctor right away. Bleeding gums is NOT normal. It is an alarm going off saying that something is not right. With a whole host of reasons why your gums bleed, we are the experts to figure it out! Come see us and let's get to the bottom of what is causing bleeding.

There are basically two types of cleaning. A prophylaxis, where we find that your gums are healthy and free from bleeding and inflamation. We use basic instruments to clean under the gums. The other is a deeper cleaning called scaling and root planing. This is a relative pain-free cleaning, without the use of needles or injections. This cleaning is imperative as we try to maintain healthy bone and tissue.

If you smoke, smoke or vape marijuana, or have diabetes or thyroid disease, periodontal disease is a higher risk factor. Let us take care of you and gently lead you toward health and well-being.
